    Great video, and especially loved how you allowed your kids to get involved (until the Real danger became evident!!! Super Cool of you for that!!! My passions came from my Grandfather including me in his 'chores' as well; and they left a lasting and loving memory of him to this day! By the way, I believe you would have faster success by cutting off the branches and main trunk Before you go to pulling the trunk and root-ball system out. It would also make for an easier/safer cleanup that your children could also help you with!

    How can i do for a 2 inch pipe...?

    • @TomWylie
      @TomWylie 20 днів тому

      I’ve seen people put some fresh extra PVC cement inside the pipe section being removed, and light it on fire. 🔥When the pipe was soft enough from the heat, use pliers to remove the soft pipe section. Seems a bit risky but it worked for them. If you wanted to try the more conservative method I showed in the video, I would use a piece of larger steel pipe that is just smaller than the ID of the piece you’re removing, and heat it red hot. Might need to repeat a few times to get the plastic pipe piece soft enough. Hope you get it done smoothly!

    Thanks for sharing your work. While I note comments like “don’t have children around”, and understand the safety concerns, you were aware of where they were and directed them to go to or stay in safe places. The lessons you taught them are ones they will remember for their lifetimes, and likely apply to their own problems. You taught them that they can outsmart and overcome obstacles that seem daunting at first. You worked together as a family, which is stronger as a unit than any individual member. You shared your ideas and approaches to address the problem. You listened to your wife and your children and acted on their concerns or suggestions, even if it was just acknowledging that you should be safe. That’s being a great Dad in my book. Thanks for taking the time to share your video.

    I wouldn't necessarily call that simple

    • @TomWylie
      @TomWylie 2 місяці тому

      I guess Simple may be in the eye of the beholder, but what I was referring to is the fact it was mostly made of wood and stone, with very little metal-and especially the huge lever they used to press out the oil at the end… was not a fancy milled beam. It was a tree trunk that they bored and stabbed a pivot shaft through at one end, and carved threads into at the other. That’s basically all the finishing they bothered to do to it. It even still had bark on the majority of its length. So to me, that’s relatively simple. …Or maybe they were just exhausted after making the rest of the whole unit and just said, “forget it! Just use that tree right there!” 😆🤷‍♂️

      We sold ours in the states and hope to buy one over here sometime soon. We We heard from many that the shipping and import process is very very expensive, not to mention the required changes that need to be made to the vehicle to conform to the legal requirements here. Our vehicle was still running great, but it was older and not worth bringing over here anyway. Vehicles in Portugal are very expensive though, which stinks. Besides vehicles & fuel though, most/nearly all other living expenses are lower & quite affordable though.

    Wow! Sounds like you want to do homesteading in Portugal. I have never heard of nomadic homesteading before. What is the purpose of nomadic homesteading? Israelites were taken up into Assyrian captivity and then migrated across the Caucus Mountains to Europe and America and from Eastern USA to Western USA. Now you are going backwards more and more. I guess you don't know yet where you will be going after Portugal. I hope you stick to the Israelite countries. At one time that country was very prominent but now it is just a place for tourists because it is cheap. Nothing going on in Portugal anymore, is there? Perhaps it will become a booming place and then you can sell your holdings into a boom to finance your next move. You're probably got a good price for your place in Missouri.

    Heres an idea, that would be great if you decide to make and sell these units. Construct it so it can be attached to a large tree....have the pillow bearings attached to a steel plate and the steel plate can be screwed into the side of a large tree , and the tree acts like the steel stand. This would mean you use less steel ,and its cheaper to make the unit and ship it. , Id guess, 4-8 large steel lag screws bolts that are at least 6 inchs long, could be used to screw the attachment plate into a large tree and if needed, maybe a additional mount , like a steel flexible band { like a metal band used to fasten down items on pallets for shipping purposes } that can wrap around the tree and be tightly fastened with a few bolts to tighten the band securely around the circumference of the tree.
